Lokstallarna in Malmö

The farm will be located in the Lokstallarna area in Kirseberg in Malmö. The unique area with the old railway workshops offers a historic feeling and the old beautiful industrial buildings characterize the area. Lokstallarna has become a meeting place for creative entrepreneurs such as Matverkstaden, Grand Circus Hotel, Lilla kafferosteriet, Marie’s bihantverk, Sagofen Isabella and many more. The farm will be centrally located in the area, next to the Street food hall, Matverkstaden, which will provide a flow of visitors and opportunity to sell your produce but there are also opportunities to have markets and events.

The owner of the property, Jernhusen, has a vision that the farm will interact with the park and the buildings around to activate the area. The industrial area of Lokstallarna is in a development process to become a new district, which means that the area will change over time. With close neighbors as Matverkstaden and Lilla Kafferosteriet, there is the opportunity for collaboration for circular models.

The offer

We are looking for a farmer who wants to grow commercially in an urban setting and want to sell their vegetables and flowers to consumers and restaurants nearby. A farmer who is also interested in being a part of the development process of the area in collaboration with the other actors in the area.

The urban farm will be established on a 750 sqm area. As it is an industrial land, the cultivation takes place in raised boxes without contact with the ground. The area consists of gravel with the old rails left, but it will be developed by Jernhusen by building raised growing boxes and the area will be fenced in. It may be possible for the farmer be involved in the design process.

The farm will be established during the winter and will be completed in the spring of 2022. The rent is SEK 18,000 / year and costs for electricity and water will be added. The property owner sees that growing vegetables is very suitable on the site, but flowers that are either edible or cut flowers. Growing both vegetables and flowers also gives biological diversity and a beautiful expression.

Previous experience or/and education in the field strengthens the application. A requirement to be able to sign an agreement with the property owner is that the grower has a registered company (sole proprietorship, limited liability company or economic association).
